Some of our Residents

Tripod

I was actually born here at Ironwood. My mom was pregnant and had babies three days after being rescued. That was good timing for me and my siblings! I am lucky to live in a big field with all of my family.

Gwendolyn

I was left at the county Animal Shelter in Yuma, AZ along with my companion, Scott. Before the people of Ironwood could make the long drive to pick us up, I had seven babies! Boy, was everyone surprised! I was a good mom, but now I’ve been spayed and will never have to go through that again.

Moody

I came here when I was really little. I lived in a place that was very cold and snowy. My piggy family had no shelter, no blankets and only frozen water. My dad was killed by a dog. My mom and siblings were all hungry and scared. We were very lucky to be rescued and brought here!

Wilbur

I just arrived in November of 2012 after my family lost their home and had nowhere to take me. I was scared at first and wouldn’t even go in a shelter. The people here gave me a bed and blankets until I got brave enough to go inside the pig house. They sure made me feel welcome and kept me comfortable.

---Wilbur

Winnie

I had been living at a veterinary clinic in a small kennel for a long time before coming here. I had been wearing a halter that was so tight it had to be cut off and I still have an indentation all the way around my body. It feels so good to have that thing off of me!

---Winnie

Blue

Some people claimed to have found me in the desert but I was very obese at the time. They were keeping me in a 10x10 pen. Yikes, hardly any room to move!

---Blue

Piggy

I had been running loose in the desert fighting off coyotes and had one of my ears torn off. I was luckily found by a nice lady who got me to Ironwood for medical help.

---Piggy

Princess

My brother Rusty and I were desert strays. I got the tips of my ears nibbled off by dogs or coyotes. I’m a hog mix and still have a lot of growing to do.

---Princess

Priscilla

My owner asked Ironwood for help in getting me spayed but then she never came back to get me. Turned out okay though because now I have lots of friends!

---Priscilla

Ruby

My owner passed away and her family didn’t want me or any of my family. Lucky I got here when I did because ten days later I had six more babies.

---Ruby

Ernie

I came to Ironwood with my brother Bert after our owners moved to a place not zoned for pigs. I had been attacked by dogs and have a huge scar on my side. I am safe and content living here.

---Ernie

Rusty

I came here a year ago with my sister Princess. We had been dumped out in the desert and just happened to be found by someone who used to work at Ironwood.

---Rusty

Virgil

I was a tiny baby when Ironwood saved my whole family. I lived at one of their foster homes for eight years, but last year my friends and I came to live here.

---Virgil

Wilbert

My owners were on vacation when the neighbor’s dogs attacked me real bad. Nobody took me to the vet and then my family decided they didn’t even want me anymore.

---Wilbert

Pebbles

I came here with my sister Ashley. We were both skinny and covered with ticks...yuk! After lots of vitamins, food and tick shampoo, life is great. I live with other pigs and get all the food I need. Love it!!

---Pebbles

Roger Dodger

I was living a tough street life scrounging for scraps and just getting by before someone helped me get to Ironwood. Now I get plenty of food, have great friends, sleep in a shelter and get belly rubs. What more could a pig want!
